Cairns bypass upgrade aims to make commuting easier for Shire residents
A major road helping link Douglas Shire to southern Cairns by bypassing the CBD will be upgraded quicker after the Federal Government allocated about $166m in Tuesday’s Federal Budget.

CYCLE FOR HOPE CHARITY RIDE 30th MAY
Pedaling for a Purpose: Cycle for Hope returns for the 11th year to Raise Vital Funds for School Chaplaincy in Far North Queensland
On Saturday, May 30th 2026, passionate cyclists from across the region will come together for the annual Cycle for Hope charity ride, supporting school chaplaincy services in the Cairns region, Mossman and the Tablelands. Starting 6am from Redlynch, riders will tackle the scenic, but challenging route up the Kuranda Range, through Mareeba and Mt Molloy, and down the Rex range to finish approx 3:30-4pm in Port Douglas having ridden a total of 145kms.
This inspirational ride is more than just a physical challenge — it’s a commitment to the wellbeing of young people in our local schools. Funds raised go directly to supporting chaplains who provide critical emotional and social support to students across the region, which supports our young people with improved mental health.

ROGERS, Ian Peter
25 September 1960 – 20 April 2026
Ian sadly passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by love.
Much loved Dad, adored Poppy, and cherished friend. Ian lived a full and meaningful life and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
