Calls to slow down at dangerous school crossing

Volunteer traffic controllers on Mossman’s main street are calling for the speed limit to be reduced to 25km/h in front of the schools before and after classes to reduce the danger of a student being hit by reckless drivers.

Blaze destroys original Mossman home

Fire destroyed a Mossman house on Sunday afternoon, the blaze burning for more than an hour and causing the two storey house to collapse on itself in the wake of the blaze.

Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures is North Queensland’s premier wildlife-based tourist attraction. Located partway between Cairns and Port Douglas along the picturesque Cook Highway, Hartley’s welcomes guests from all over the world.

We currently have a full-time position available for an experienced Retail Manager to operate our busy Paperbark Giftshop. This 38 hour per week position, based at Hartley’s, will be responsible for all aspects of the outlet as well as managing the stock at Kuranda Koala Gardens and Birdworld Kuranda.

The successful applicant will be a capable, highly motivated and well-presented person who, in addition to the higher-level duties of management, is willing to be hands-on with stocking shelves and selling products to our many guests.

Our giftshop is the main outlet for our classic range of homegrown, high-quality, crocodile leather goods so quickly gaining strong knowledge around these unique products and the permitting requirements for sales will be essential.

Essentials in a nutshell: • Ability to maximise sales and minimise costs through stock presentation, high levels of customer service and correct pricing. • Experience in purchasing souvenir stock online or direct from Souvenir Sales Reps. • In conjunction with the Retail Supervisor, train, manage and evaluate our small Gift Shop Team. • A strong customer service focus, good organisational skills, good computer skills and the ability to create an effective planogram. • Demonstrated skills in operating a Point of Sale system. • Demonstrated skills in managing an electronic stock control system. • You are an honest and reliable person with the ability to work under pressure whilst • multitasking. • The position is five days per week with some work on weekends and public holidays as required. • You must have reliable transport and a current driver’s license as there are no public transport options available.

What you'll be doing · Safely operating and navigating our vessels, ensuring exceptional customer experiences · Performing regular maintenance and servicing to the highest engineering standards · Supervising and training a team of dedicated crew members · Providing exceptional customer service and environmental education to our guests · Contributing to the continuous improvement of our operations and safety protocols

What we're looking for · Significant experience as a sailing skipper and marine engineer, with a proven track record in the tourism industry · Relevant qualifications, such as a Master 5 and MEDII. · Strong mechanical and engineering skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and maintain vessels · Excellent communication and customer service skills, with a passion for showcasing the Great Barrier Reef · A commitment to safe and sustainable eco-tourism practices
