Jury poised to deliberate early next week in Toyah case trial

The trial of Rajwinder Singh for the murder of Toyah Cordingley in the Cairns Supreme Court is expected to begin winding up on Monday, with both sides soon to deliver closing addresses before the jury retires to consider its decision.

Wonga Beach resident Carolyn Arcus has challenged Douglas Shire Council’s stance to not clear creeks and culverts that discharge water to the sea at Wonga Beach, warning it leaves a significant flood risk to homeowners.

ADMISSIONS & RETAIL ASSISTANT

The famous Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures is North Queensland's premier wildlife-based experience located in the Wet Tropics on the coast between Cairns and Port Douglas. The drive along the coast from either Port Douglas or Cairns, is a great opportunity to unwind from a day at work, with great scenery and not too many traffic lights.

Hartley's is recruiting for a part-time, four day per week, position commencing at the start of 2026. We are looking for a capable, well-presented person to work across both our busy Admissions Counter and Paperbark Giftshop. Both areas can be extremely busy so require people who work well under pressure. In this role you may be the first encounter for our guests, or their last encounter; either way you get to make a great impression!

For your application to be successful you will need to have a strong customer service focus, excellent sales skills, have good organisational skills, basic computer knowledge, cash handling skills and a good eye for detail.

Experience in stock control, merchandising and maintaining a clean retail environment are prerequisites.

We are seeking an honest and reliable person with the ability to work under pressure whilst multitasking.

You must have reliable transport and a current driver’s license as there are no public transport options available to and from Hartley's.

Previous experience in the tourism industry and/or a retail background will be highly regarded. If you feel you are ready for a fun new challenge at the start of 2026, please submit both a cover letter, detailing your suitability, and a current resume. Relevant references / referees essential.
