Rescue after another car swept off Laura River causeway

A pair of men were reportedly plucked from near a car trapped in the Laura River by Swiftwater Rescue authorities last night after they were swept off the causeway while trying to cross floodwaters - the second such incident there this month.

Douglas Shire’s Citizen of the Year will be announced tomorrow evening at the council’s Australia Day Awards ceremony in Port Douglas, while on Monday gatherings are expected to take place in several venues across the region including at Mossman Pool and in the Daintree Village.
